Aegina is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece in the Saronic Gulf, 27km from Athens. Aegina consists of Aegina and a few offshore islets. It is part of the Islands peripheral unit, Attica Periphery. The municipality is subdivided into five communities. The beaches are also a popular tourist attraction. Hydrofoil ferries from Piraeus take only forty minutes to reach Aegina; the regular ferry takes about an hour.
Halkidiki is a large peninsula in northern Greece located between the Thermaikos and Strymonikos Gulfs. The peninsula ends in three smaller peninsulas; Kassandra, Sithonia and Mount Athos. Chalkidiki has the longest stretch of coastline in mainland Greece, estimated to be more than 500 km of sandy beaches and attractive bays.
