Terracotta Area – Covers East of Neapolis down to Mochlos, and further inland

The largest and most popular town in this area is the cosmopolitan Agios Nikolaos, with its famous “bottomless” lake. A beautiful, picturesque town, dominated by tourism in the summer months, remains vibrant with local life in the winter. With the kindest climate in Crete, this area is very popular with many Europeans. Its population is around 20.000 inhabitants, not too large to overwhelm, but large enough to provide all of the facilities required for full time residency. Many small villages and hamlets, such as Kritsa, Limnes and Lakonia, lie around the town, some traditional, some more modern, but all in close proximity to Agios. Further along the Mirabello Bay coastlines, nestling in pretty bays, are many small fishing villages, always with the obligatory, fish tavernas to entice. Along with its fair share of archaeological sites, mountain gorges, undiscovered villages, this charming area offers plenty of choice for young and old.
