Green Area covers the north and south part of Rethimno prefecture.

The most mountainous of the prefectures of Crete, Rethymno. Its natural landscape, the impressive ravines, the caves, the shepherds’ villages and beautiful beaches offer opportunities for many different tours. The picturesque old city of Rethimno has numerous cultural monuments, monasteries, towers and the Venetian villages are also worth visiting. The prefecture is situated between Chania to the west and Heraklio to the east.

As you explore Rethymno Province you will meet the historic town of Rethymno, Spili, Lake Preveli, Anogia, Plakia, Episkopi, Agia Galini and you will be impressed by the majesty of nature which, along with human will create beautiful villages with structures of unique style. Exploring the South you will find the treasure beaches like Triopetra, Preveli, Agios Pavlos, Damnoni, Kerames and many others. You will find historic monuments all around Rethymno. Worth visiting are the historic monasteries of Arkadion. East of the prefecture is mountain Psiloritis (2456m), the highest and most famous of Crete. A colourful and breathtaking Carnival is taking place in Rethymno every year.
