Located on Crete’s south coast, Agia Galini is approximately 10 minutes drive from the villa, 1 hour 30 minutes drive from Heraklion airport, or about 1 hour driving from the port city of Rethimno. Agia Galini is well stocked with local and imported produce, and has good hotels and tavernas for every budget. The village has excellent mini supermarkets, greengrocers, butcher, fishmonger, bakeries, Post Office, primary school, car rental, taxi service, bus station, medical clinic, and an internet café. Summer boat trips to the island of Paximadia and various local beaches can be arranged with the boat owners in the village harbour. There are three access routes from Agia Galini to the property, the quickest and most frequented track is approx 1 kilometre. The two beaches nearby, on sparkling Libyan Sea, are clean, usually quiet, accessible all the year round, and are about 2 scenic kilometres from the house. There are small, rustic tavernas on, and overlooking one beach; these tavernas are not necessarily open in the winter months, which is when locals collect sea salt from the rocks for preserving olives and fish. Famous historical sites i.e: Faistos, Agia Triada, Gortyn are nearby, as are the market towns of Spilli, Tymbaki, Mires and Matala.
