The pretty village of Asteri lies 8km east of Rethymno and just 2km inland from the coast. It is a small rural village with a friendly community, whose livelihood comes from the surrounding olive groves. The village has a café and snack bar and traveling shops bring all the fresh daily produce to the village.
Situated on a hillside the village has views west across to the White Mountains and the monastery of Arseni, and out across the Mediterranean sea.
A short drive through the neighboring village of Hamalevri and down to the coast, brings you to all the facilities and amenities the seaside has to offer; whilst being just inland enough to enjoy the benefits of the tranquil Cretan countryside during an evening stroll to the local kafenion.
This village is central to both airports giving the added advantage of a greater choice of flights, it is a one hour drive to both Hania and Iraklion.
