Dariviana – Lampis
As you drive south from Rethymno, and just before you arrive in the mountain town of Spili, you pass through a small hamlet of houses known as Dariviana. From the main road you would hardly know the village was here apart from the Grecian fresco painted on the wall that you cannot fail to miss on the left hand side of the road. Opposite the fresco is a small turning on the right hand side that takes you down into the old village, past the church of Ag. Pantalis and into the maze of houses and lanes that lead down to the river. The tree lined river carries the water from the famous fountains in Spili, and runs along the bottom of the village and on around the valleys and out to sea at Prevelli. There are walks along the cool shaded riverside and occasionally you come to pools where the local children used to swim and fish. Dariviana is just 1 kilometre from Spili, were you will find all local amenities and a good range of shops, in the village itself is a kafeneon and a cake shop that also serves coffee and snacks. Rethymno is just 22km, and both airports are approximately one and a half hours drive away.
