A small village with one kafenion, bus service to Elounda half an hour away. 15 minutes to Skinias or Selles beach. Within the village there is a renovated wind mill, a village square, a viewing platform, two churches one of which is thought to be one of the oldest in Crete. Clusters of old renovated properties around the other church which is at the heart of all village activities. A village dairy producing fine Cretan sheeps cheese. The daily farming of olives, vines and sheep are a constant reminder that this is still "a working village." It is also true to say that many of the buildings are in decline neglected by owners who have either passed away or now live in far away cities. However many of these relatives are now returning to Loumas investing and restoring the family home demonstrating the very strong family ties that is so typical of the Cretan culture.
Within the last five years the village is being restored and the local community more confident regarding their future.
