Maroulas is approximately 15 minutes by car from the centre of Rethmno, one hour to both Hania and Heraklion Airports and just 10 minutes to the longest beach in the Mediterranean.
The Region: Rethimno is the third largest town in Crete renowned for its Venetion harbour and walled fortress. The old town is a maze of narrow streets lined with buildings and houses of various architectural influences from the unmistakable Venetian period to the Turkish wooden facades that were used as viewing galleries by the women of the harems inside.
Today, Rethimno is a bustling town with a picturesque waterfront lined with traditional tavernas and interspersed with fashionable bars and restaurants. A new marina completed in 2004 now sees yachts arriving from Hania and other ports in Greece and around the Mediterranean. East of the town at the start of the long sandy beach, is the main tourism area of Rethimno, where hotels, pensions and guest houses spread along the beach to the outlying villages that are growing fast with the development of private housing, these are properties being built as holiday and retirement homes for foreign investor
