Therrisos is a small village at the foot of the White Mountains, about 20 km south from Hania. The drive is very beautiful as it leads through the gorge of Therissos. The village has played an important role in the resistance against the Turkish occupants. The politician Eleftherios Venizelos had his headquarters here, his house is now a museum. The lovely village has several excellent tavernas. North of the village there is a cave where traces of Neolithic and Minoan settlement have been discovered.
