Xerocambos is a place of great beauty, set on its own plateau at the far eastern end of Crete facing the Libyan sea. Approached from a semi-circle of mountains that tip down from the Ziros/Handras plateau access is by a road down from the village of Ziros or from the lively village of Zakros on the Eastern side which is only 10 minutes away.
This wonderful unspoilt part of East Crete is open and spacious and has long sandy beaches, many small sandy coves all set in front of some wonderful olive groves. Here you can spend idle and restful days recovering from the stresses of everyday life, surrounded by turquoise water and many volcanic rocky outcrops where fish hide and are waiting to be discovered by swimmers and snorkelers alike. In mid summer there is a fragrant and striking lily that grows out of the sand beside the sea that is called the Lily of the Desert.
There are several tavernas and kafenions, two of which are by the beach and one of the taverna's specialises in fresh fish. There is also a mini market that opens during the summer season.
